Living Room Cupboard – Part 3

Last weekend I put 2 coats of white paint on the cupboard. It’s the same paint used on all the trim in the condo. I have no idea what brand or color it is – I found it in the basement when I moved in and the label was completely covered in paint. I found lots of unlabeled paint cans in the basement when I moved in, which are now properly labeled and organized *nods*.

My First 5k!

Today I ran my first 5k! And by ran I mean walked 🙂 I am many things, but “runner” is not one of them! Hubby usually runs in a few 5k charity runs each summer, and this year he was like “why don’t we do it together? I’ll run, you can walk”. I had never even considered walking a 5k. I always assumed the people I’d see walking were people that were running/walking through it.

Spaghetti Squash

I’d never had spaghetti squash until last night. I’d heard of it, but never tried it. Something about putting spaghetti sauce over squash didn’t sound right. My brain was like “puhlease! I will totally know I’m being short-changed”. Then yesterday I came across another article mentioning how great spaghetti squash is, as a replacement for pasta, especially when you’re trying to watch your weight. So I decided to try it.

Living Room Cupboard – Part 2

Last week I primed the living room cupboard base and doors with Stix primer. However, after two coats, I noticed the doors were showing streaks of yellow through the primer. Which made me worried that the stain was coming through. So, since my motto is “when in doubt, BIN”, I re-primed the cupboard and doors with 2 coats of Zinsser BIN. No more yellow streaks – BIN FTW! With 4 coats of primer between me and the stain, I should be all set to paint!

Living Room Cupboard – Part 1

Yesterday after work I got a burst of energy and decided to start painting the living room cupboard – something that’s been on my to do list for a long time! I started by taking the doors off and prepping the frame with blue painters tape. Then I spread contractor’s paper on the floor of the girl cave, set up my painters triangles, and got the doors ready for primer.

Kitchen Cupboard – Part 2

As I reported this morning, I was able to get some DIY stuff done over the weekend. And that included putting 2 coats of high-gloss Benjamin Moore Calypso Orange in the glass-front kitchen cupboard! I primed and painted it with a sample of BM Calypso Orange back in March, but their samples only come in Satin finish and I wanted high-gloss.

Back in the Swing of Things

Well, here we are in June, and the last DIY-related thing I did was back in April! Oy! Every weekend I tell myself I’m going to do some DIY stuff, but every weekend comes and goes with no DIY. Lately my weekends look like this: Saturdays are spent relaxing, decompressing from the work week, and re-charging my batteries [aka – reading, napping, walking, and laying on the couch watching TV].

Big Island, Hawaii 2014 – Part 3

Sorry for the long delay between posts – my computer died last weekend and work has been C·R·A·Z·Y with a capital K. Now I’m sick with some kind of major allergy attack or cold [there’s also a small chance I inhaled an inchworm hanging from a tree on my walk last week, which could account for all the coughing, but the more likely scenario is I’ve caught the blight that’s been taking out my coworkers at record speed.

Big Island, Hawaii 2014 – Part 2

After our long road trip to Hilo and back, we decided to chill out in Kona for the next few days. We relaxed in waterfront parks, dined in waterfront restaurants, took daily naps, snorkeled in an almost-enclosed, coral-filled natural bay where sea turtles feed [so cool!], played in the waves at our favorite beach, and slept 10-12 hours a night! All that relaxing tuckered us out! We also toured a local coffee plantation and visited a local honey farm.
