Big Island, Hawaii 2014 – Part 1

OMG Hawaii! We got back Sunday night. We loved it! We were in Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii, for 8 days. We could have easily stayed forever. Maybe someday we will 🙂 I realize this isn’t DIY related, but I wanted to document my trip, and by doing a blog post about it, my family and friends can see what we saw!

Laundry Room – Part 4

I finally got my act together and painted the last little bit of wall in the laundry room. If you recall from my last laundry room post, I had everything done except a little bit above and around the door. I finished that this morning, which means the room is DONE!

“Basic Home Repair”

This was the last week of my “Basic Home Repair & Preventative Maintenance” class at Whittier Tech. It was a 10 week class, each class was 3 hours long. I learned so much! We started with 3 weeks of electrical where we learned how to fix a loose outlet, replace an outlet, ground an outlet, map our basement electrical box, and add a switch to a wall.

Oops… Sorry, Ab!

HOORAY, it’s finally Spring! The windows are open, the breezes are blowing, and the kittehs are LOVING their window platforms, where they can lounge and luxuriate in all the odoriferous wonders coming in through the screens. I have no idea what cats consider to be good smells.

Laundry Room – Part 3

Hubby was gone this weekend, helping a friend in need, so I was planning to devote the entire weekend to DIY. That didn’t work out as well as I’d planned. However, I did get 97% of the laundry room painted! Woohoo! On Sunday I started in the laundry room by taking down the wall shelves over the washer and dryer and moving everything out of the room.

I’ve Been Vegucated

Soooooooooooooo… yesterday I had a Netlix streaming documentary marathon. I originally curled up on the couch with my Earl Grey tea to catch up on HGTV. However, I wasn’t really in the mood for the Property Brothers, so I browsed through Netflix’s streaming video selection, particularly documentaries, which I always find fascinating.

Laundry Room – Part 2

I’ve been writing this post for 2+ weeks now. I edit some old content, add some new content, then lose my oomph and give up. Two weeks ago I was sick for a week. Stomach cramps, sore throat, headache, zero energy. Thankfully I’m all better now, asides from a low-grade headache which comes and goes. Then hubby, who was already battling bronchitis, caught my stomach bug, but much worse!

Kitchen Cupboard – Part 1

We’ve decided to paint the inside of our glass-front kitchen cupboard. This was hubby’s idea, and I think it’s a brilliant one. He suggested a bright, bold orange like Benjamin Moore’s Electric Orange, but I decided to go with the slightly more tame Calypso Orange. So last night, after removing the items and the shelves from the cabinet, I used Benjamin Moore Fresh Start primer followed by 2 coats of Calypso Orange.

Laundry Room – Part 1

I am painting the laundry room raspberry! Up until now it’s been the same green as our hallways. I wanted to give it some distinction. I’m using Benjamin Moore Night Flower, which looks good enough to eat! I primed 2 sections of wall Sunday with Benjamin Moore’s Fresh Start primer, then rolled 3 coats of Night Flower on top.

Breaker Box: MAPPED!

OMG. I just spent 5 hours mapping the basement breaker box to all the outlets, switches and appliances in our condo. Holy crap. I thought it would take 3 hours tops. Nope. 5 hours. But at least now I can tinker with outlets if I need to [like replacing the beige receptacles with white ones!] and know which breaker to turn off.
