Cats in the Alcove – Part 4
There’s a fine line between failure & determination. Currently I am on the failure side.

A couple weeks ago I got the cats access to the alcove above the TV by way of new cat tree and shelf. So far Darwin is the only one that uses it, and he LOVES it. He perches up there every evening, watching the world go by. Meanwhile Birdie has not even attempted to get up there, and has shown no interest in the new cat tree, either. Meh!
I was housebound today due to Snowmageddon 2015. So I decided to tackle one of the items on my 2015 Projects list. Specifically, getting the cats access to the alcove above our living room TV. As you saw in Part 1, I bought a new cat tree which arrived yesterday, which was almost high enough.
Getting the cats access to the alcove above our living room TV is one of the items on my 2015 projects list. My original plan was to build steps up the wall to the right of the TV. But then last week I had a brainstorm: buying a 2nd cat tree, like the one we have in the bedroom… would get them almost high enough to reach the alcove!
I had today off from work. Jim did not. So I spent most of the day decluttering and organizing the house. Part of that involved setting up the 2 black Whitmor 4-Tier Shelving Units I bought last month on Amazon. I was going to put one in the basement cage and one in the girl cave, but after setting up the first one in the basement I decided to put them both down there. They’re AWESOME!
For Christmas, hubby gave me [amongst other awesome things like a new Kindle *happy squeak*] 2 of the DIY books I wanted most in the world: Black & Decker’s The Complete Guide to Wiring [6th Addition], and Jackson Galaxy’s Catification. These books will definitely help me fumble my way through a new year of DIY! Thank you, hubby!!!
We traveled to Florida the day after Thanksgiving and spent a week in the summer sunshine. We came home to a very cold house [low to mid 50’s] and a very swollen river. Yay. Our house has 3 heating zones: the living room, the master bedroom, and the dining room/girl cave [which makes no sense since they’re on different floors – the girl cave is directly above the dining room].
A couple of weeks ago, I extended the downstairs cat platforms [which I’d built in October] around the corner into the living room so Birdie could access the TV cupboard and the couch. This afternoon, despite being sick, I got out of bed long enough to extend the platform in the other direction, around the corner into the laundry room.
Last week I decided to expand the downstairs hall cat platform around the corner into the living room to give Birdie greater access to the goings on in the house. I got a new platform cut, primed and painted, and hung it up last night.
