I just added this project [and 2 others] to my 2015 Projects list. Is it cheating to add projects I know I’m about to complete? I yanked them off my Future Projects page and snuck them onto my Current Projects page *grin*. Yesterday, in addition to replacing the light over the kitchen sink, I also replaced the light over the master bathroom sinks.
The LED light over our kitchen sink has been acting up for a while. The 3 LED bulbs would flicker, go out, come back on, etc. – very annoying. The whole thing was definitely in need of replacing. Last week I disconnected it so I could see if it was hard-wired or plugged into a hidden outlet. It was hard-wired. So over the weekend hubby and I went to Home Depot and bought an LED replacement.
Yesterday after work I put up 2 of the Hemnes shelves I bought at IKEA on Wednesday. They’re solid pine that’s been stained white. I’m not sure what “white stain” is. They look painted. I moved the couch and chair, got up on the ladder, and screwed them into the window frame above the big window in the living room overlooking the river.
Last month I ordered a Pegboard Kit from Amazon. Instead of being wood, like most pegboard, it’s black plastic. My first plan was to put it up in the Girl Cave, since that’s my sometimes workshop. Then I decided I’d put it on the wall at the top of the basement stairs, since the basement cage is my main workshop. I finally decided the LAUNDRY ROOM would be the perfect spot!
Over the course of the past month, I’ve been building a series of shelves and platforms designed to get Birdie & Darwin into the alcove above our TV. I thought I was done. Both Birdie & Darwin LOVE the alcove and are always up there, sometimes together. But not poor Bonkers. As Jackson Galaxy would say, Bonkers is a bush dweller, not a tree dweller. The floor is his domain. Or was, until recently…
The ice buildup on the little roof above our front entrance hall is getting to be of epic proportions. It’s 6-8″ thick. And it’s not just our roof that looks like that – it’s EVERYONE’S roofs. The majority of our issues are on the driveway side of the house and are contained to our little entrance roof and the section of main roof right above it.
I apologize in advance – this is a very long and photo-heavy post! Last week I installed 5 new platforms leading from the alcove above the living room TV to Birdie’s downstairs hall platforms. Darwin was on board right away. But Birdie, not so much.
Last night one of the original downstairs hall cat platforms ripped out of the wall with a huge crash.
In early January the plumber came to the house because our living room was 47 degrees. He was able to bleed the system in the basement and get the air out of the pipes. The living room baseboards started warming up immediately! While he was there we had him look at the dining room/girl cave zone, which had never worked.
Success, FINALLY! The path towards getting Birdie access to the alcove above the living room TV has gone from Saturday’s botched attempt to a spackle-covered fresh slate to finally 5 shelves making a stairway from Birdie’s downstairs hallway platforms up to the alcove above the living room TV.
