A Mouse Story – Part 1
This is the first part of a 3-part mouse story. It all started back on December 3, 2019, when Darwin spent 2 days staring fixedly at the living room baseboard heater, cocking his head from side to side.

Working from home has it’s challenges but overall it’s been a very enjoyable experience!
For a couple of years now, “rebuild the back [yard] steps” has been on my projects list. In early May I finally got around to starting the project and when I pulled the top step away from the wall I knew I had to elevate the job to our local handyman because rot. SO much rot.
Here are my Instagram photos for April, May, & June. There are waaaaaaaay more than usual because of being sheltering at home during the covid pandemic. It’s been really nice to be working from home from the Girl Cave, while Jim works downstairs in the dining room. And the cats LOVE having us home.
Building on my last post, here are 5 more little projects I’ve completed in the past couple of months. I also photographed my “honey do list”, at least the first page.
In May 2019 I started de-mousing our foundation. I got as far as doing the right side of the stoop and part of the front wall of the house while Darwin helped. In December I did the left side of the stoop, but it got too cold to do the front. I finally finished last week.
In May 2016 I completed a DIY screen door for the master bedroom. After 4 years of sun & weather the door is still going strong, but the paint DEFINITELY needed some TLC.
This is going to be a very boring post. I’ll get that out of the way right now. It details the continuation of my endeavor to replace our ugly brass hinges with silver colored ones.
Since I can’t really go to Home Depot [it’s not worth it unless it’s an emergency, and nothing is, so far], and since I can’t really go out [except to walk], I’ve kept myself busy with little projects.
In 2015 I built an outdoor cat enclosure, or “catio”, in our back yard. It’s something I’d wanted to build for a while, and finally convinced hubby the cats would [1] be safe from predators and [2] hidden from 99% of public view. We have a pretty small back yard and the 6’x6’x3′ catio takes up about 1/3 of it!
