You know those little projects on the perpetual “to do” list that never seem to get done? Because they’re small, annoying, or both? Yeah. I have 10 of those that have been on my list for months. I decided I’ll do one a day for the next 10 days. I figure each one will take between 30 & 60 minutes. Originally I planned to post this all in one post, but it got too long, so I’m breaking it in half.
The replacement heating element for the dryer arrived in the mail this morning. I swapped it out with the old one & put the dryer back together. Miraculously [so far] it’s working!!!
For the past week the dryer has been dead. We cleared out the lint but it still didn’t work. We checked the manual which suggested we test the thermistor, the high limit thermostat, the regular thermostat, the cycling thermostat, & the heating coil. Um, what??? We attempted to set up a service call but the tech never showed. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands!
Last Friday our dryer stopped heating. Hubby [who’s in charge of laundry] had to bring a dryer full of damp clothes up the street to the laundromat. Our first thought was maybe the lint had clogged up the vents. I climbed behind the dryer and detached the vent from both the back of the dryer and from the wall. But when I looked in, it was empty except for a few tiny clumps which I removed with my fingers.
I just added 4 new cat platforms to the upstairs hall. That makes a total of 25 platforms I’ve built in the past 3 years. TWENTY FIVE. If that doesn’t earn me Crazy Cat Lady status I don’t know what will! OK, maybe walking down the street with a shopping cart full of cats… *shudder*. This past weekend I put the finishing touches on 4 new platforms surrounding the girl cave doorway.
One of the things on my 2016 Projects list is to paint the border of the 3 way-up-high windows on the back of our house. I want them white to match the 9 replacement windows we had put in last August.
All I can say is: It’s freaking amazing to have working lights in the back yard!!! I’ve lived in the condo since 2012. For the first 2 years, I didn’t even realize the ugly black things stuck to the wall in the back yard were the remnants of old flood lights. Last year I finally recognized them for what they were, and this year I did something about it!
One of the projects on my 2016 Projects list is to install lights in the back yard where there have always been two weird black receptacles. I decided to see what was under the receptacles – better to find out what’s underneath before going any further. After work I got my ladder out, climbed up, and used my voltage tester to see if there was any electricity running to the receptacles. Nothing. Dammit!
Another item from my 2016 Project List done, albeit not a very exciting one. The original metal back door that goes from the yard into the living room has always been ugly brown on the inside and outside. Now it’s black on the outside and white on the inside to match our other doors.
After finally going to the huge transfer station 2 towns away earlier this month, I made it to our local transfer station today. Last year our neighbor chopped her lilac tree down to almost nothing, and this year it was covered in so many gorgeous, bright purple flowers. Ours, which I don’t think has ever been trimmed, had about 4 very washed-out flowers. This morning I grabbed my hand saw and chopped ours back to almost nothing.
