Cats in the Alcove – Part 9
Between January and May 2015, I got our cats access to the alcove above our living room TV by building 2 sets of shelves and steps.

EDIT: Bizarrely, since writing this post the other day, one of my 4 cherry barb fish has completely disappeared… either my new snails are carnivorous, or it’s just a baffling mystery.
I’ve had a 5-10 gallon fish tank on my kitchen counter for going on 15 years. I love having one, even though at times the maintenance can be frustrating & challenging.
My friend and former neighbor Martha [we lived next to each other for 7 years before I moved to Ipswich to live with hubby] is downsizing, and asked if I’d come to her house last week to see if I’d be interested in anything she was getting rid of. Yay!
This post focuses on the double vanity we had installed [back in September 2012!] in our master bathroom. Jim has always maintained that double sinks are the key to a happy marriage and now that we have them, I’d agree!
I decided to add another mini platform to Birdie’s collection of platforms in the living room. It basically ended up being a fail. So I removed it. The end.
This is project #3 on my 2015 Projects list. I got the idea from the Young House Love blog and thought it would be perfect for our kitchen. This was probably the quickest DIY project I’ve done yet! 15 minutes from start to finish and that includes having a war with the 2 spare boards.
Project #4 on my 2015 Projects list is “Paint Small Bookcase in Girl Cave Purple”. The scope of this project recently changed, in part because of something that will be revealed in a forthcoming post, and in part because my parents would love to have it back. So today I completed the project as far as I can in terms of the new scope, so I’m calling it DONE!
At the beginning of April I started my front hall entrance overhaul. It involved ripping out the hideous carpet from the closet and painting the walls and closet Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal. Now it’s time to start thinking about TILE.
I had today off from work. I had some extra vacation time built up, so I’ve taken 3 Wednesdays off over the past couple months. I like taking Wednesday off because you work 2 days, then have one day off, then work 2 more days, and have 2 days off. I prefer shopping on weekdays because the stores are blissfully vacant, so Wednesdays are perfect for errands.
Guess who went to the local hardware store after work and bought a full sheet of ¾” plywood? That’s right, this girl! Woohoo! I don’t know why I love plywood so much… probably because it’s the first wood I’ve ever bought and I haven’t graduated to “real” wood yet.
