Flood of 2010

MARCH FLOOD OF 2010:

My husband bought our condo in October 2009.  He was a little leery of being RIGHT on the edge of the Ipswich River, but the realtor assured him that it only flooded once every 100 years, and the “Mother’s Day Flood of 2006” had covered us for this century.  So a few months later, when the river turned into a class 5 rapids, flooded the town, washed out roads, and filled our basement with water, he was understandably horrified.

I didn’t meet Jim until September 2011, so this all happened before my time. But I wanted to document it here, because the photos and videos are CRAZY!  Original flood pics are on the left [most taken by hubby!], and my matching [and updated] “what the river usually looks like” pics are on the right:

You can see more of Paula Stephens’ flood pictures here.

Here’s a video shot by Glenn Kennedy which shows Jim [HUBBY!] at the end [starting at 0:35, tan jacket, walking with his friend Alecia]!  This video was shot on the Riverwalk Bridge, before the river got so high they closed it to the public.  You can see our house on the left right at the start of the video, and again behind hubby around 0:35:

And here’s a video showing the waterfall/dam and Riverwalk Bridge at peak flood level, taken from the fish ladder walkway.  You can see a tiny glimpse of the corner of our house at the very last second:
