I Haz A Staph Infection

As of today, I’ve been sick for 8 weeks.  A frustratingly long time.  I didn’t know what was wrong with me until Sunday when the ENT specialist called to tell me it’s a staph infection in my throat.  Thankfully not the “bad” staph.  So for 8 weeks I’ve dealt with a constant sore throat, headaches, lack of appetite, exhaustion, & low grade fevers.  Ridiculous.  After 4 visits to the doctor [3 to my regular family doctor & one to the ENT last Thursday] I finally have a diagnosis.

I started antibiotics yesterday morning but had an allergic reaction that got worse after taking the 2nd pill last night.  I had to use my emergency inhaler to open my airways and take Benadryl to counteract the extreme itchiness.  The breathing thing was scary and I’m still not back to 100%.  I will start a different antibiotic tomorrow night [the ENT said to immediately throw out the first one and wait 48 hours before starting the new one].

The highlight of the past 2 months was the 5k mud run I did with Abbie.  Other than that I’ve been going to work, eating, & sleeping.  Like literally nothing else.  Working full days started taking a toll last month so I started going to bed as early at 6pm and sleeping hours and hours of my weekends away.  Total nerd life.  For the past 2 workdays [Friday & today] I had to leave at noon to come home & sleep.  My husband Jim has been a saint through all this ♥ ♥ ♥ – I love you soooooooooooooooooooo much, hubby!!!  I hope the 2nd antibiotic helps me and that by next week I’ll be feeling like my old self.

With that said, I still feel lucky.  With all the bad, awful, heart wrenching things going on in the world today, 2 months of being sick is nothing.  Every day I am thankful for my life, my husband, my job, my house, my family, my pets, my friends, my car, & [usually] my health.  Every day.

  1. I’m so glad you got diagnosed at last! And sorry that you had a reaction to the antibiotics. You’ve been through a lot! I hope you get well fast and can tolerate the new meds. I agree, the world sucks right now. Especially the US part. We will get through it. Too bad there’s not an antibiotic for what ails our country! GET WELL!!

So glad, finally!!!, someone has been able to figure out what’s been wrong with you all these weeks. 8 WEEKS! o.m.g! And then to have an allergic reaction to the medication was really adding insult to injury. Fingers crossed that the 2nd med does its thing w/o making you sicker.
Anyway, I read your blog and was (still am) feeling SO sorry for you, but then the picture of you spread eagled on the ground appeared – and it cracked me up – again!
    Get well!
