I’m coming up on my 2nd Blogiversary next week [holy cow for months I’ve thought it was my 3rd!!!], and I think because of that, I’ve been reflecting a LOT on how much I’ve learned and accomplished this year.  The thing that stands out the most is my ability to actually walk into any hardware store and buy wood.  That probably seems like nothing to most people, but for me it’s HUGE!!!  It’s only really been in the past few months that I’ve honed that ability, thanks to the cat enclosure.  I’ve been at the local hardware store and/or Home Depot buying wood constantly.  It’s an amazing ability that I LOVE HAVING!!!

When I first started this blog, buying wood was unfathomable.  The first time [and I think the 2nd and 3rd time, too] I dragged hubby with me and he helped me walk into the wood warehouse and ask the dudes milling around for help.  I’ve pretty much given up on my local hardware store because a couple of the wood dudes are [pardon my French] DOUCHE-BAGS.  They ogle women, they treat me like a lesser human because I’m a girl buying wood, and I reported one of them a few weeks ago for kicking over a public art display:

Here’s what the sculpture [Disconnect by Patrick Healy] is supposed to look like:

If he kicks over metal dogs I wonder what he does to real dogs *shudder*.  He was wearing his official Tedford’s Hardware Store shirt, so I reported him to Tedford’s.  I should have reported him to the police, but I figured his boss could do that, hopefully after firing him.  I have no idea if they did fire him, but they should have because in addition to being a vandal of art, he’s also a misogynist, and a class-A douche-bag.  Fuck that.  Now my store of choice for wood is Home Depot.  I can walk in any time of day or night, peruse the wood aisles, and come home with a loaded trunk, whether it’s 2×4’s, 1×3’s, 2×2’s, etc.:

Another milestone is this post:  it’s my 2ooth post with pictures!  Woohoo!!!  I’ve actually published 218 posts, but not all of them have pictures, or at least original “taken by me” pictures.

Also, it’s been a year since we adopted Birdie!  We adopted her from the Ipswich Humane Group animal shelter 8/11/14.  What an incredible year she’s had!  From hiding under the bed, then hiding in the girl cave, then finally venturing downstairs after I built her some cat platforms:

To finally taking small adventures on the floor, LOVING her living room alcove:

And lately to sauntering right by Bonkers and Darwin like it’s nothing!  And Bonkers – as of 2 weeks ago – finally leaves her alone.  I’ll be writing more about that soon.  There was another MAJOR blowout which resulted in tons of cat fur all over the upstairs hall and Bonkers with a gash over his eye, so we think she finally kicked his ass.

Also, I have added a Disclaimer to the bottom right of my home page.  It’s not much, but I got tired of trying to remember to always put in a caveat any time I mentioned a product by brand name on my blog.  It’s a pain to always say “I was not compensated in any way for mentioning this product, it’s my own opinion only”.  Now my disclaimer should cover all of that nonsense.  I’ve also started adding in more Amazon links to the bottom of my posts, which you’ll start to notice.  Hopefully they aren’t / won’t become too obnoxious.  I always welcome feedback regarding ANY changes I make!!!

  1. We all have our favorite stores and it usually has to do with customer service. You think that would be so obvious. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

  2. There truly is never a dull moment when you have multiple cats! Go Birdie!!

  3. Jessica@CapeofDreams

Yay for Birdie!!!! I am so happy to hear she is over her fear. Love wins again.

  4. I love Birdie – she’s quiet, she’s ladylike, she’s laid back, and she’s very beautiful. I feel sorry for Bonkers, but you have to admit he’s an idiot, and I’m glad Birdie finally told him ‘ENOUGH!!!!’
Never a dull moment at your house!

    • Me too – we just wished we’d witnessed it! Like their first blowout, it was at night and we heard it but by the time we woke up enough to run into the hallway it was over.
